Santa's New Spot: Mickey's Toontown Trolley Barn Becomes a Holiday Photo Space at Disneyland Park
The 1,500 square foot Trolley Barn in Mickey's Toontown has been converted to a photo-op location, and Disneyland now lists the Trolley Barn as a place to meet Santa Claus.
What we know
City records show permit BLD2026-01882, a change of use that converts existing storage and maintenance space at the Trolley Barn into a photo-op area, issued on 2026-06-02. The case was finaled on 2026-11-03. The work covers 1,500 square feet of converted space and a small 76 square feet canopy over exterior equipment.
Two trade cases followed. Electrical work under BLD2026-03434 was finaled on 2026-10-29. Mechanical work under BLD2026-04962 was finaled on the same day, 2026-10-29.

The backstory
Mickey's Toontown opened at Disneyland park in 1993 as a cartoon neighborhood where Mickey Mouse and his friends live. Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin, a dark ride based on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, opened there in 1994. The land closed for a reimagining and reopened in 2023 with more open play spaces and Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway as its new attraction. Toontown has long been where characters greet guests at their cartoon homes.
The Santa news came out over the summer. Disney Parks Blog announced in August 2026 that Santa Claus would move for the 2026 holiday season to the Toontown Trolley Barn near Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin. The Fantasyland Theatre, where Santa met guests in prior years, is now home to the Bluey's Best Day Ever! show. Santa will greet guests inside the Toontown Trolley Barn for the first time this year.
Prior to this, the Trolley Barn had played a working role rather than a guest-facing one, since the permit's description calls the converted area existing storage and maintenance space.
What it likely means
The conversion creates the indoor setting where Santa now meets guests, because the change of use to a photo-op space lines up with the official Disneyland page naming the Trolley Barn as a Santa location. At 1,500 square feet plus a small canopy over exterior equipment, this reads as a modest interior fit-out of the existing building.
The electrical and mechanical cases likely support lighting and climate control, since an indoor photo space needs optimal light for pictures and comfortable air for guests at the meet and greet. With both trade cases finaled on 2026-10-29, the space is likely already ready ahead of the holiday season at the Disneyland Resort, starting November 13, 2026. The room may eventually host other character photo-ops outside the holidays.
What's been announced
The official Disneyland Resort "Direct from the North Pole" Santa Claus page says Santa will greet guests in Disneyland park at Mickey's Toontown Trolley Barn. The same page lists a second spot, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail in Disney California Adventure park.
What to watch for next
City records show BLD2026-01882 as finaled, so the final inspection is completed. The meet and greet location is expected to open November 13, 2026 or earlier, for a potential soft opening.
The Trolley Barn may become Santa's home in later seasons as well. Fantasyland Theatre's programming may change and help determine whether Santa ever returns there. If you are planning a visit, the official Disneyland Resort entertainment pages list Santa's hours, which can change through the season.
