The Avengers Campus Expansion Has a 110,757-Square-Foot Show Building on the Books
City records show Disney California Adventure cleared the new attraction building for the Avengers Campus expansion with a size of about two and a half acres in February 2026.
What we know
City of Anaheim records show permit BLD2025-04584 at Disney California Adventure (DCA) issued on 2026-02-12, and it's still listed as issued with no final inspection recorded. The work it covers is “new commercial construction” of a 110,757-square-foot attraction building with restrooms, offices and a breakroom, plus 3,425 square feet of canopies and nine awnings.
It wasn't the first permit for this building. City records also show BLD2025-02087, issued on 2025-06-26, for a new foundation, steel framing and catwalks for a new one-story building, with electrical. Both records name the same block and the same building number inside DCA.
The city's records list an expiration date of 2027-02-12 for BLD2025-04584, and the plans have gone through 29 revisions so far, the latest closed out in October 2026.
The backstory
Disney announced the Avengers Campus expansion at D23 in August 2024. The plan roughly doubles the size of the land with two new attractions. Avengers Infinity Defense is a multi-world battle that sends guests to places like Asgard and Wakanda to face King Thanos, and Stark Flight Lab puts riders in two-person pods on a robotic arm for a simulated test flight with Tony Stark.
Avengers Campus itself opened in June 2021 on the former site of A Bug's Land and part of the Hollywood Land backlot, as Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, formerly The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, was then included. So this expansion is the land's first since it opened. At our last visit to the parks, we observed that the expansion was in active construction.
What it likely means
Let's put the size in context. At 110,757 square feet, this show building covers roughly two and a half acres. In comparison the entire DCA park is about 72 acres, and Team Disney Anaheim (TDA), the resort's headquarters, is about 305,000 square feet in total. So this one building is more than a third the size of TDA.

This will be the main show building for the Avengers Campus expansion. The city's records never name the project, but the permit calls it an attraction building and its size matches the square footage of the building as measured on Google Earth.
The order of the two records also tells us something. The foundation and steel permit was issued about seven and a half months before the full building permit. That likely means Disney started the structure early, on a narrower scope, while the rest of the building's plans were still in review. It's a common way to keep a large project on schedule, and the 29 plan revisions suggest the full design is still undergoing changes, which would not be unusual for a project of this complexity.
The stated square footage lines up with this being a large single story structure. Based on our observation of the scale model of the Infinity Defense show building at D23 in August 2026, we are speculating this will eventually become a multi-level structure and attraction. Typically, building permits will state the total square footage of a structure, inclusive of all levels and stories, so if our assumption of more than one story is correct, we would expect to see the stated square footage in the permit increase in size.
What to watch for next
- Ride-system, electrical or fire-protection records that name this building.
- Updates to the stated square footage of the building
- A final inspection date on BLD2025-04584, which would mark the building itself as complete. That would come well before any opening.
- Any official opening window from Disney.
